Credit camp helps 600 small businesses apply for loans in two days

Bankers, chartered accountants and district officials sat under one roof in Amrauli to help small units fill forms, fix documents and understand loan terms.

More than 600 small businesses applied for loans at a two-day credit camp in Amrauli, where bankers, chartered accountants and district industry officials set up desks under one roof to help owners complete their applications.

Most applicants were tailors, food processors, repair shops and small traders. Many said they had given up on bank loans in the past because of missing documents or confusing forms.

"I came with a carry bag of papers and no idea which one mattered," said Farida Khatoon, who runs a small tiffin service. "A volunteer sorted it in 15 minutes and helped me open a proper business account."

What the camp offered

  • Help with registering a business and getting a basic registration certificate.
  • Checklists of documents for different loan types.
  • Explanations of interest rates, processing fees and repayment schedules.
  • On-the-spot account opening for businesses without a current account.

Officials said about 250 applications were complete enough to be processed immediately, while the rest were given a list of missing documents and a date for a follow-up visit.

The district plans to hold such camps every quarter. Bankers at the camp said the biggest problem they saw was not credit history but incomplete records of income. They advised owners to keep simple monthly accounts, even in a notebook.
